The Saint Véran cru is divided into two islets separated by the Pouilly Fuissé cru. They both occupy the slopes of the Solutré chain, the crest of which is formed of "limestone with entanglements". On the western side of these rocks, the steep slopes are made of grey marl. On the gentler slopes of the eastern side of the rocks, marly limestone dominates.
