The construction of the Eigashima distillery (formerly White Oak) took place in 1984. Built according to Scottish models, they produce refined whiskies in small quantities. This is a largely manual production, carried out by the same local craftsmen who are involved in the production of more traditional eaux-de-vie. The use of this age-old know-how enables the production of unique products that bear no resemblance to Scotch whiskies. The climate also makes the difference, as the large temperature differences between summer and winter help to speed up the ageing process. The popularity of Japanese whiskies in recent years is a sign of the future
